As you may know, the World Cities Summit concluded in Singapore yesterday where the Administrator highlighted the challenges and responses to rapid urbanization in the Asia–Pacific region. It was an important platform to draw attention to issues such as inclusive growth, land tenure and climate variability and how to tackle the endemic poverty and inequalities that have come to characterize rapid urbanization in the region. A set of four issue briefs developed by the Regional UNDP Development Solutions Team on Urbanization and UN-Habitat was featured at the Summit, offering mayors and policymakers insights on issues and good practices ranging from building disaster resilient housing and securing tenure, to city planning that delivers effective social protection and basic services for the urban poor.
